The Mystery Man: Art Gives the Chills
Who is the man of the Shroud?
You know those exhibitions that leave you speechless, with your jaw wide open and a whirlwind of thoughts in your head? ‘The Mystery Man’ is one of those. We’ve seen it pop up everywhere: Spain, Italy and now… well, now we’re talking about it from the beating heart of Terrarium!
The exhibition, conceived by Spanish artist Álvaro Blanco, is a real immersion (and not only virtual!) into the story of the Man of the Shroud. Not a simple reconstruction, but a forensic, artistic and spiritual investigation that starts from the Holy Shroud to arrive at a hyper-realistic reproduction of the body of Christ. Thrilling stuff.
Blanco in the Terrarium
We talked about this incredible project with its author, Álvaro Blanco. Not in a conference room or on the side of his exhibition, but on our bench, in the middle of the greenery of our creative hub. A meeting the way we like it: informal, genuine and full of interesting insights.
In the interview, Álvaro talks about the long and complex process of study and research behind ‘The Mystery Man’. Fifteen years of study on the Shroud, together with scientists, forensic scientists and artists, to give a face (and a body) to the most enigmatic figure in history. An ambitious goal!
‘The Mystery Man’ is the perfect example of how to deal with deep and complex themes in a contemporary and engaging language.
On the official website you will find historical, scientific and artistic insights into the Shroud and the exhibition.
Look at the Shroud as a work of art and tell me what you feel.
A unique emotion
But beyond data, studies, analyses, “The Mystery Man” is above all an experience. An emotional journey that confronts human frailty, suffering, but also hope and redemption.
‘To hide this image would be to hide the truth about who we are,’ says Álvaro. And we at Terrarium could not agree more.
Arte e Riflessione
Hosting Álvaro Blanco and talking about ‘The Mystery Man’ was a real honour for us. It was an opportunity to show that Terrarium is not only an artistic hub, but also a place to meet, exchange and reflect on the issues that are closest to our hearts.
And you, what do you think? Have you seen the exhibition? We are waiting for you in the comments to share your impressions!
